Abstract Plane longitudinal waves propagating in a Slepyan-Palmov medium that consist of a carrier medium and an ensemble of nonlinear oscillators are considered. The system of equations of dynamics is reduced to one equation for the longitudinal displacement of the carrier medium. The propagation of harmonic waves is analyzed depending on the change in the system parameters characterizing the relative density and dissipation in the medium. It is shown that only periodic waves can exist among nonlinear stationary waves. The influence of the parameters of nonlinearity and the relative density of the material on the limits of the maximum possible deformation, shape and wavelength has been studied.
Keywords Slepyan-Palmov model, longitudinal wave, harmonic wave, dispersion, dissipation, nonlinear periodic wave
