Abstract Approaches to physical modeling of ice as a material and ice cover as a specific natural object during model tests of ships and offshore engineering structures in ice tanks are considered. The analysis of methods for obtaining ice models partially satisfying the conditions of the similarity theory is carried out. New methods of modeling and obtaining ice cover are shown, which satisfy the methods of modeling theory more completely.
Keywords ice model basin, ice cover models, ship model tests, similarity theory, analysis, physical modeling
