Abstract The problem of interaction of a deformable indenter with a plate and the problem of plate punching as a result of interaction between the deformable indenter and the plate in the presence of a discharge current are considered.

The stresses arising in the plate and in the indenter are obtained. The shapes of the plate and indenter free surfaces formed in the process of penetration or punching are shown. The shapes of fragments and the dependences of the indenter velocity on the penetration depth are also shown.
Keywords penetration, punching, discharge current, magnetic field, deformable indenter
