Title |
Stability of the equilibrium state of an axially compressed closed circular cylindrical shell with respect to small perturbations |

Abstract |
Stability of equilibrium states of axially compressed closed circular
shells is analyzed for the Navier boundary conditions using the
classical linear shell theory and the dynamic shell buckling
criterion. An analytical solution is presented which enables the axial
compression parameter value to be determined above which shell
buckling under small perturbations of a particular kind becomes
probable. Good qualitative and quantitative agreement between the
calculated critical axial shell compression parameters and the
experimental data is obtained. |
