Title The influence of the suspension automatic control system on the evolutionary motions of a contactless gyro
Author(s) Yu. M. Urman (Nizhni Novgorod)
Abstract Contactless suspension of a gyro rotor is provided by an automatic control system. If the rotor has perfectly spherical shape and is balanced, the control system responds to translational displacements but is insensitive to the angular motion of the rotor. However, if the shape of the rotor differs from the spherical one, a self-modulation of the suspension field appears, which leads to torques that substantially influence the dynamics of the gyro. Some effects of the influence of the suspension control system on the angular motion of the gyro rotor were considered in [1-3]. In the present paper, the evolutionary motions of a spherical rotor induced by the action of the automatic control system of the isotropic suspension are studied. The steady-state modes are analyzed. The stability of the nutational oscillations and the behavior of the angular momentum are investigated.
