Abstract We consider the problem of stationary acoustic wave scattering by a thin elastic circular cylindrical shell. An approximate solution for the scattered pressure is obtained under that assumption that the strain wave length is small relative to the radius of the shell. In this connection, the motion of the shell is described by the equations of plane elasticity in Cartesian coordinates, i.e., the shell is replaced by a plane layer. We discuss the applicability area of the solution constructed and give results of its comparison with the exact solution.
