Abstract The term $\mu$-split road surface denotes the road section with sharp difference between traction coefficients for the right and left wheels. This is the case, for example, for an automobile entering an ice-covered shoulder or an oil pool by one side.

We consider a four-wheeled automobile entering a $\mu$-split road surface. We assume that prior to this, the automobile moved rectilinearly at constant speed. Methods of the theory of singularly perturbed systems are utilized to construct simplified equations of motion and calculate the angular velocity acquired by the automobile after entering the $\mu$-split road surface.
