Abstract The transient responses in the time domain of a two-layered solid subjected to dynamic in-plane loading are studied by employing the method of image. Recursive relations of coefficients of the potentials are obtained in transform domain. The inverting transformations are performed by using Cagniard-De Hoop method. The physical interpretations of the solutions are given. The results show that the solutions are equivalent to those of the generalized ray theory and the expanding matrix method.
