Abstract Single-crystals of Co8.4Al9.4W1.9Ta alloy with macrosegregation of Al and W were directionally solidified with a flat front. Mini-specimens of different composition were cut at different heights of the single-crystals and tested for compression and oxidation at 900°C. It was found that W increases yield strength while Al retards oxidation.
Keywords cobalt-base alloys, directional solidification, macrosegregation, yield strength, oxidation resistance
