Abstract |
Clearance is an important nonlinear factor in the vehicle shimmy system, which has a crucial influence on the dynamic shimmy behavior. Therefore, the limit cycle bifurcation characteristics of the vehicle shimmy system with consideration of joint clearances are investigated in this study. Based on numerical examples, it is found that the system response is related to initial disturbance. Then, multiple limit cycle characteristics of the vehicle shimmy system are examined. These findings can explain why amplitude jump occurs when clearance is taken into account. Moreover, the influence of various factors on distributions of limit cycles is also analyzed. Some measures are proposed to reduce the proportion of limit cycles with large amplitude and to avoid amplitude jumps in the whole speed range. The relevant conclusions can provide theoretical basis for attenuation of vehicle shimmy and parameter optimization in the stage of vehicle design. |
