Abstract |
Based on the variational approach, boundary value problems are formulated that describe the state of thermodynamic equilibrium of polymer gels in the field of body forces. A polymer gel is considered as a mixture, which is an elastic material and a liquid (solvent) dissolved in it. The general theory is applied to study the deformation behavior of polymer gels and plasticized polymer materials in a gravity field. Within the framework of a model problem that describes the equilibrium state of a gel in the form of a flat layer, the conditions are established under which a solvent or plasticizer is capable of separating from a polymer under the action of gravity. In particular, relations were obtained that make it possible to estimate the critical values of the parameters at which the solvent is released, as well as to calculate the amount of liquid released from the material. |
