Abstract |
Pile foundations are often subjected to a combination of vertical, bending moment and lateral loadings. In this paper, a typical practical model with sixteen piles divided into eight groups was employed, and the static and combined loading tests were conducted to investigate the bearing performance of a single pile under combined loads in sandy grounds. The results showed that the pile head settlement of the single pile increased with the increase of the pre-applied lateral and bending moment loadings, and the lateral loads affected strongly the pile head settlement if the lateral load was above half of the threshold value. Furthermore, the ultimate lateral bearing capacity of the single pile increased with vertical loads if the point load height was 10 cm, whereas the ultimate lateral bearing capacity decreased if the point load height was 20 cm. In particular, it was revealed that such influences of combined loadings on bearing performance of a single pile in sandy grounds mainly occurred within ten times pile diameter in depth under the surface. |
