Abstract A method for solving the boundary value problem on relaxation of residual stresses in a surface-hardened rotating cylindrical rod under creep conditions with rigidly fixed and initially given axial and angular displacements has been developed. The solution has been obtained by using a method for reconstructing the fields of residual stresses and plastic deformations after surface plastic deformation and a method for calculating the relaxation of induced residual stresses during creep with constraints on axial and angular displacements at the free end of the rod. A detailed study of the kinetics of residual stresses depending on the values of the initially given axial and angular displacements and the angular velocity of rotation has been carried out using model examples for rods made of ZhS6KP alloy at a temperature of 900°C. It is shown that there is a weak influence of the number of revolutions on the stress-strain state in the hardened layer with respect to a non-rotating rod.
