Abstract The existence and stability of equilibria in the problem of motion around a fixed point of a rigid body in the form of an isosceles tetrahedron in the central Newtonian field of forces are studied. The connection of these equilibria with the previously studied equilibria of a regular tetrahedron, which are a special case of permanent rotations, is clarified. The article was inspired by the publications of A. V. Karapetyan and co-authors, in which an original approach is proposed that makes it possible to effectively take into account symmetries in the study of steady motions in problems of the dynamics of a rigid body with a fixed point.
Keywords a rigid body with a fixed point, a body in a central gravitational field, Routh's theory, stability and branching of steady motions, an isosceles tetrahedron
