Title Free vibrations of a laminated cylindrical shell subjected to nonuniformly distributed axial forces

Abstract We consider the problem on free vibrations of a laminated composite cylindrical shell subjected to nonuniform axial compression. A specific feature of this problem is the presumed localization of shell vibration mode shapes near the weakest generator in view of in-plane shear. We use asymptotic methods to obtain closed formulas for the natural vibration frequencies and mode shapes allowing for the circumferential nonuniformity of the loading and the presence of in-plane shear.

By way of example, we consider the problem on free localized vibrations of a sandwich cylindrical shell. We study the influence of physical properties of the sheets on the natural frequencies.
