Abstract In contrast to L. Euler's classical problem of buckling of a beam under longitudinal compressive loads, we consider the buckling of a beam subjected to transverse loads that preserve their orientation when the beam is deformed. Flexural and torsional buckling modes are studied. To identify a shear buckling mode, the Timoshenko model [1] is used.
