Aviation Institute (1944). A scientist in the field of solid mechanics, structural
mechanics, and aircraft strength.
In 1941, he volunteered for an exterminatory battalion of a special regiment
of the Domestic Affair People's Commissariat, participated in action
of Leningrad. In September of 1941, he was recalled from the front to continue
his education at the Moscow Aviation Institute (evacuated to Alma-Ata). After the graduation

of the Russian Federation.
Since 1968 to 1992 he headed the Society for Knowledge of the Russian
Federation. He was the Chairman of the Russian National Committee on Theoretical
and Applied Mechanics (1982), the Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Russian
Academy of Sciences on Mechanics of Structures from Composite Materials (1986),
and the Editor-in-chief of the journal "Mechanics of Solids" (1988).
A Deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Russian Federation
of the 7th to 11th convocations (1967), a People's Deputy of the USSR
(1989-1991).
The author of numerous publications on the theory and
design of thin-walled spatial systems, shell structures
of the type of a wing or a body of an aircraft, and
optimal design of structures from composite materials,
including the cases of complex loading. The creator
of the scientific school in this field. Several generations
of scientists with Ph.D. and D.Sc. degrees have been brought up
under his supervision.
He was awarded the State Prize of the USSR (1976),
the Prize of the USSR Council of Ministers (1983),
