Abstract Processes of propagation of transverse and longitudinal waves in stretched strings impacted by bodies of arbitrary shapes are investigated. Within the framework of statements of [1, 2], the interaction of the string with wedge-shaped, flat-faced, rounded, and rounded flat-faced bodies is considered. (Flat-faced and rounded flat-faced shapes describe, for example, the profile of piano hammers.) Solutions for problems in which there exist regions where the string separates from the body are presented for the first time. This separation occurs when the velocity of the transverse wave exceeds the velocity of the last point of contact of the string with the body or when the acceleration of the body is negative.
