| Abstract |
We study the problem of
the existence of free vibrations localized near the edge of a circular
cylindrical semi-infinite elastic shell. Dispersion equations
are obtained on the basis of the equations of the
Kirchhoff-Love theory for the dynamic equilibrium of cylindrical shells.
An asymptotic relation is established between the dispersion equations
for this problem and those for a similar problem for a semi-infinite plate.
We describe a method for separating various types of vibrations localized
near the free edge. For cylindrical shells of different radii and thickness,
approximate dimensionless characteristics are obtained for
eigenfrequencies and decay of the corresponding eigenfunctions. |
