Abstract A mathematical model of granulated media impregnated with a liquid and acted upon by an acoustic wave is proposed. Theoretical fundamentals are developed and a laboratory installation is created for measuring inertial and elastic properties of such media on the basis of a resonance method. This installation has been tested and utilized for measuring the "dynamic" density and bulk elastic modulus of natural and artificial samples of granulated media. A number of qualitative effects are established and analyzed. We have identified and measured the dependence of the dynamic density on the wave frequency. We have investigated vibrations of the system depending on the shape of the samples and their position in the resonator, as well as on the elastic compliance of the resonator (Corteveg's correction). The results of the complex theoretical and experimental investigations of hydrodynamic characteristics of granulated media impregnated with a liquid that have been carried out are of interest in both scientific and applied aspects for hydroacoustics and marine geophysics.
