Title Stability of an orthotropic cylindrical shell with a filler subjected to external pressure

Abstract The stability of cylindrical shells with a filler which are subjected to axial compressive loads was analyzed in [1] on the basis of the equations of thin shells and three-dimensional theory of elastic stability (for the filler). The end surfaces were assumed simply supported. Other types of boundary conditions for this problem were considered in [2]. In this study, the equations of a Timoshenko type refined linear theory were used.

In the present paper, we analyze the stability of an orthotropic laminated cylindrical shell attached by the inner surface to an isotropic filler. The shell is acted on by uniform external pressure. The filler has an internal cavity of radius a. This filler is regarded as a three-dimensional body and is described by either the equations of elasticity or the linearized equations of small elastoplastic strains. The transverse shear strain of the shell is taken into account by the hypothesis of rectilinear element.
