Abstract This work investigates the thermo-elastic interaction in an unbounded functionally graded (FG) materials induced by a time-dependent pulse, within the framework of the generalized thermoelastic model with Green and Naghdi type III model (GNIII). The basic equations for functionally graded materials (FGMs), characterized by spatially varying properties, are formulated based on Green-Naghdi Model. These equations are expressed using Laplace transformations to get the exact solutions. The eigenvalue techniques are employed to derive explicit solutions in the transformed domain, followed by numerical inversion of the Laplace transforms to retrieve results in the time domain. The numerical data obtained are graphically represented to examine the impacts of material inhomogeneity and pulse duration on displacement, temperature, and stress distributions.
Keywords Laplace transform, eigenvalues approach, functionally graded material (FGM), Green-Naghdi Model
