Abstract In this work, the effects of rotation, voids, magnetic fields, and initial stress on the reflection of rotational waves at a free surface are investigated. The problem is solved by applying normal mode analysis, which analyzes particular circumstances and derives the reflection of rotating waves at a free surface with voids. Two damped P-waves and an SV-wave are reflected when a rotational wave is incident on the free surface of an elastic half space. P-waves are solely impacted by magnetic field, but SV-waves are impacted by both magnetic field and starting tension among these waves. These findings may be useful in future research on the characteristics of seismic waves. Graphs show how rotational waves are reflected at a free surface with voids Concerns magnetic field and initial stress for void-filled free surfaces. The findings demonstrate the significant influence that the existence of rotation, voids, magnetic field, and beginning stress has on the values of physical variables, particularly when the magnetic field is larger. A comparison has been made with the previous works obtained by others to display the influence of external parameters on the reflection phenomenon that agree with the current results if the external fields add neglected. The results obtained applicable in diverse related fields as geology, acoustics, physics, engineering and etc.
