Abstract This study investigates reflection of SV-wave as well as p-wave within a homogeneous and isotropic generalized magneto-thermoelastic half-space subjected to isothermal and stress-free, employing the theoretical dual-phase-lag model. The fundamental governing equations are employed in the framework of Tzou model with dual-phase-lag (DPL). The results showed three plane waves, i.e. p-, thermal, as well as SV-waves. The study considered reflecting an isothermal stressed-free surface to get the amplitude ratios of these waves for getting p- and SV-waves. The amplitude ratios were given graphically for the generalized theories of thermoelasticity. Finally, the obtained results were compared with the findings of the literature. A comparison has been made between the present results and the previous results presented by others. The numerical and graphical results underscore the significant influence of phase lag and magnetic field on the phenomenon of reflection of p-wave and SV-wave.
