Title Regular Precession of a Gyrostat in Three Force Fields
Author(s) V.Yu. Ol'shanskii (Institute for Precision Mechanics and Control Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IPTMU RAS), Saratov, Russia, olshanskiy_vlad@mail.ru)
Abstract The article gives a solution to the problem of possible conditions of regular precession in the motion of a gyrostat around a fixed point under the action of three fields, two uniform and one inhomogeneous. For the well-known case with equal speeds of precession and proper rotation, new solutions are indicated with the precession axis deviated from the symmetry axis of the inhomogeneous field. New cases of regular precession are found, when the ratio of the speeds of precession and proper rotation is equal to two or one half. The application of the results for precession in orthogonal fields and for the precession of a rigid body is considered.
Keywords rigid body and gyrostat, superposition of uniform and inhomogeneous fields, regular precession
