Abstract A new method for studying a gyrostat under the action of potential and gyroscopic forces in the case of a variable gyrostatic moment is presented. The solution to the Kirchhoff—Poisson equations is constructed, which describes the regular precessions of the gyrostat about the symmetry axis of the force field.
Keywords gyrostat, gyrostatic moment, potential and gyroscopic forces, precessions
