Abstract Changes in thermal stresses are calculated, including the final residual stress states and the formed preload in the assembly, in the shrink fit process of a pipe on a shaft made of materials with elastoviscoplastic properties. The calculations are carried out by solving the corresponding axisymmetric Gadolin problem, in which the assembly parts have the same length. Attention is drawn to a possible singularity in setting the boundary conditions of the problem and a method is proposed to eliminate the influence of this feature on the calculation results.
Keywords elasticity, viscoplasticity, thermal stresses, Gadolin problem, shrink fit, interference assembly
