Title On Configurational Forces in the Mechanics of Phase and Chemical Transformations
Author(s) A.B. Freidin (Institute for Problems in Mechanical Engineering, Russian Academy of Sciences, St. Petersburg, 199178, Russia, alexander.freidin@gmail.com)
Abstract A brief overview is given for the mechanics of configurational forces as applied to the description of propagation of interphase boundaries and chemical reaction fronts. Configurations associated with transformations, kinematic conditions, and balance equations at the interphase boundaries are discussed. Expressions are written for the energy dissipation caused by propagation of an interphase boundary or a chemical reaction front. This makes it possible to formulate additional constitutive relations, i.e., kinetic equations that determine the interphase boundary or reaction front velocity depending on the configurational force.
Keywords interphase boundaries, configurational force, Eshelby energy-momentum tensor, chemical affinity tensor, mechanochemistry
