Abstract The process of assembling a bimetallic pipe by using shrink fit is considered. The materials of the assembly parts are assumed to be elastoplastic with a yield strength dependent on temperature. Within the framework of the theory of temperature stresses (uncoupled theory), it is shown that using classical piecewise-linear plastic potentials, it is possible to calculate strains and stresses including the final interference in the assembly without discretizing the calculation domains. The calculation methods and their results are compared to each other using yield criteria of maximum shear stresses and maximum reduced stresses.
