Abstract The load-displacement relations and buckling loads of Mises trusses, which are used in a bistable structural element, has been investigated in this paper. For the snap-through struts, von Mises trusses are connected to the adjacent elastic structural elements that provide elastic types of supports to the ends of the trusses. The elastically supporting actions of the other elements on a truss were replaced by equivalent springs. Then the effects of the elastic supports on the behavior of von Mises trusses, which rarely appear to be reported in the open literature, were discussed.
