Abstract The problem of a two-axle four-wheel vehicle skidding on a horizontal homogeneous plane arising when locking or slipping the wheels of one of its axles is considered. The wheels of the other axis of the vehicle retain or lose their grip with the supporting plane. The cases are discussed when following the recommendation adopted in theory of driving a car to "turn the steering wheel (front wheels) towards the rear axle drift" allows reducing the angular speed of the vehicle rather than when the front wheels are turned or turned the other way)
Keywords skidding, bicycle model, Coulomb friction model, nonholonomic constraints, multicomponent dry friction model, variable structure model
