Abstract |
We consider specific features of the application of the upper bound theorem
to two classes of materials (viscous materials and composites consisting of
a viscous and a perfectly rigid-plastic material) for the special form of
boundary conditions: the surface of the solid is stress-free everywhere
except for a friction surface. It is shown that an upper bound for the
required deforming force can be obtained for viscous materials but cannot
be obtained for composites. For the latter class of materials, an
approximate method is suggested. A numerical solution for an illustrative
example is obtained. |
