Abstract |
Mechanical damage of structure units often occurs as a result of brittle fracture or plastic deformation arising on the material surface due to various technological defects and inhomogeneities. The damage can also result from corrosion or impact loads. In the present study, small deviations of the body surface from a plane shape are regarded as a surface defect which induces a local increase in the stresses and can cause the development of damage. The stress concentration induced by a slight curvature of the body surface is analyzed by means of a perturbation method. This method is similar to that used in [1, 2] for investigating curvilinear cracks.
The present paper continues the investigation of [3], which was aimed at studying the appearance of half-ring dislocations on the surface of a semiconductor heteroepitaxial structure. Such materials consisting of semiconductor layers with different lattice parameters are widely used in various electronic and optical devices. A discordance between different lattices leads to deformations, which can result in the formation of dislocations. The dislocation density affects the quality and efficiency of electronic devices. |
