Title Steady-state motions of a rigid body with a rigid blade in the homogeneous atmosphere
Author(s) M. Yu. Ovchinnikov (Moscow)
Abstract We consider steady-state motions of a rigid body with a blade in the atmosphere. We search for the steady-state motions in which the body is rotating with constant angular velocity and its center of mass is moving with constant speed along a helical curve, the axis of this curve being vertical and parallel to the angular velocity of the body. First, we consider two particular cases, (i) where the body does not rotate and its center of mass moves along an inclined line (this motion is referred to as the plane motion) and (ii) where the body rotates and its center of mass moves along vertical line (this motion is referred to as the trivial motion). After that, the general case of helical motion is considered in which the center of mass of the body moves along a helical curve. Numerical examples are presented.
