Title Optimal design of quasi-brittle membrane shells subjected to constant or cyclic loads
Author(s) N. V. Banichuk (Moscow)
Abstract Issues considered in this paper pertain to the design of shells made of quasi-brittle materials and having minimal weight. The problems under investigation involve the determination of an optimal thickness distribution taking into account the possibility of crack formation. Such problems are characterized by incomplete data as regards the initial dimensions, position, and orientation of cracks. We formulate some basic problems of optimal shell design based on a guaranteed approach and describe some results of analytic investigations.
