Title Application of a refined asymptotic model to the study of acoustic wave scattering by a spherical shell
Author(s) V. A. Kovalev (Moscow)
Abstract The problem of scattering of a stationary plane acoustic wave by a thin spherical elastic shell is studied on the basis of a two-dimensional asymptotic model refining the classical Kirchhoff-Love theory of shells. In contrast to the latter, our model takes into account transverse reduction of a shell and some other phenomena, and therefore, can be applied for a much wider frequency range. This is confirmed by a numerical example in which the exact solution is compared with solutions obtained on the basis of the refined asymptotic model, the Kirchhoff-Love model, and the Timoshenko-Reissner theory.
