Abstract This is a review of the main publications of the last fifty years on some 2D and 3D problems of viscoplastic flow, in particular, flow in plane convergent and divergent channels, rolling of a cylinder on a lubricated surface, motion of a film on a rotating disk, non-unidimensional shear, compression of a layer between two rigid planes approaching one another, and impact of a rod on a rigid obstacle. Special attention is given to the behavior of rigid zones (cores) in the region occupied by the material. Among the results reviewed are those on the stability of deformation processes in loaded viscoplastic bodies. Some prospective trends in the fundamental research of viscoplasticity are indicated.
