Abstract A technique for identifying the time dependence of an transient boundary load with a known spatial distribution acting on a three-dimensional isotropic elastic body is presented. Reconstruction of loading is carried out in the frequency domain according to the measured response of a certain variable caused by the action of the sought load. The solutions of an auxiliary direct problem constructed in a special way are used. The numerical direct and inverse Laplace transforms are used. The auxiliary problem is solved by the boundary element method. Detailed results of a illustrative numerical example are given. The obtained solutions are found to be in good agreement with the results of direct measurements.
Keywords inverse problems, load identification, Laplace transform, boundary element method
