Abstract Composite materials are used in various domains of the industry and research. In the way of exploring new resins that could be used in the manufacture of composite structures for aeronautical applications, this work find its interest in characterization of laminate composites materials using different methods. In fact, for compliance with safety standards on the mechanical performance and security, a thorough knowledge of the mechanical properties of these structures is essential. This characterization is therefore essential in the validation process of new materials. The tensile and compression tests make it possible to obtain the Young’s modulus, the Poisson coefficients and strength, but they are not suitable for the determination of the out of plane mechanical characteristics. These techniques are also limited by their destructive nature. This has encouraged the development of nondestructive testing (NDT) techniques. In this study, we compare different characterization methods in order to obtain reliably and reproducibly the mechanical properties: tensile, compression and ultrasonic measurements. It is shown that these characterization methods are coherent and complementary to obtain all the mechanical properties of the material.
