Abstract A technique for determining the dynamic characteristics of a liquid-saturated granular medium is presented. A mathematical model of acoustic wave interaction with a thin layer of the medium in a rectangular vessel with acoustically soft walls in the experimental equipment is constructed and investigated. The measurement data were used to determine the dynamic density, the sound speed in a granular medium, and its elastic properties with a high relative accuracy for artificial and natural specimens.
Keywords granular medium, compressible liquid, resonance method, dynamic density, speed of sound, bulk elasticity
