Title Moment Thermodynamics of Heat Transfer
Author(s) G. A. Vanin (Moscow)
Abstract Using a problem of non-stationary heat conduction in fibrous media as an example, we consider basic principles of moment thermodynamics of irreversible processes. Thermodynamical potentials for stationary processes in composite media have been constructed previously by the analogy method [1]. The term "moment thermodynamics" is introduced to single out investigations that take into account the effect of substantial gradients on the state of bodies near their boundaries, in regions of intensive local loads, as well as for other problems beyond the scope of the classical thermodynamics of irreversible processes. In the classical thermodynamics, no models of bodies are used for studying states of these bodies [2]. In connection with the development of nano-technologies, it is important to study models of new materials that take into account nonhomogeneous states of bodies on the nano-level and lower scale levels simultaneously. Creating an adequate model that takes into account the influence of various physical fields on the state of composite materials has required moment thermodynamics to be involved to construct the governing equations and other relations. In this paper, we formulate conditions ensuring that a system attains local equilibrium and also suggest an algorithm for solving heat conduction problems, using generalizations of basic relations of couple stress mechanics of composites [3] and thermodynamical parameters to inhomogeneous media.
