Abstract At present, the photographic survey by means of the Schmidt telescope is virtually the only source of information about the position of faint objects. Since there are no methods of astrometric reduction of observations that would take into account specific features of the Schmidt telescope, substantial systematic residual errors prevent the utilization of Schmidt surveys as a source of information about the position of faint objects. As shown in [1], the basic source of systematic errors is that the consequences of the photoplate deformation arising during the exposure are not taken into account in an adequate way. A highly accurate method is suggested in [1] for taking into account the deformation of a square-shaped photoplate. In the present paper, we investigate another possible source of systematic errors- the incomplete contact between the deformed photoplate and its spherical support. It is shown that the incomplete contact may explain the divergence between the model proposed in [1] for taking into account systematic errors caused by the deformation of the plate and real divergences observed in the reduction of Schmidt plates.
