| Abstract |
We consider a rigid body freely moving in a clearance between
two parallel smooth walls. Its possible collisions with the walls are
assumed to be perfectly elastic. This system was considered in connection
with the "Fermi acceleration" problem for the case where the walls
were vibrating and the body was spherically symmetric [1]. Generally, it
can be a basic model for the verification of various hypotheses in the
kinetic theory of gases. In [2], stability conditions were found for the
plane translational motion of a body between fixed walls. In [3, 4], the
stability of periodic jumps of a rotating heavy rigid body on a horizontal
base. The present paper is devoted to the spatial periodic motions of
axisymmetric bodies between fixed walls. |
